There are many types of Black and Decker Batteries but the most commonly used are the cordless tool batteries. Depending on the cordless tool that you have, you can purchase them in 9, 12, 14.4, 18 and 24 volts power output. They are also available in Pod-style and Slide-type battery pack; these two have a different mounting orientation and are not interchangeable.  You can also have them in different type of battery cell such as Nicad, Nimh and the powerful Lithium Ion. Nicad is the cheapest and the common type of battery cell, they are usually free when you purchase a brand new cordless tool.

If you are looking for a good replacement battery, you might want the Nimh, they last longer than Nicad but a bit expensive. For professional use you can use the Lithium Ion battery, it can hold almost six times than Nicad and it’s the most expensive among the three.  Lithium Ion batteries are commonly used in making compact type batteries because it can hold the same amount of power as the other type of battery cell using a fraction of the size. Most B&D batteries features the “no memory” technology which allows you to recharge it even its not fully drain, when you are done working just put it in the charger and get it ready for the next project.  Some replacement batteries are cheaper than the original B&D, it’s because they already removed some less important features and the material used are also cheaper. If you are using an original battery, it is recommended to use also an original charger to take advantage of the special features and to extend its life.

There are also other types like the one used in Versapak series of tools, it has a 3.6 volts output with a cylindrical body and also available in Nicad, Nimh and Lithium Ion battery cells. Some B&D small equipment and home appliances have a different kind of battery; they are usually bigger in size because of the large amount of current needed to operate them.

Some batteries are made for backup purposes; they are made portable so you can carry them along in your bag while travelling to different places where there’s no electrical outlet available to recharge your cell phones, digital camera and other electronic gadgets. These backup batteries has a built-in standard outlet so you can directly insert the charger of your cell phone, it also have a built-in USB power connector for charging USB devices like Mp3 players and ipod.

Another type of backup battery is the 12 volt Battery Booster, this type of battery is made specifically to use in vehicles; it works by providing extra power to start the engine just in case you have a weak battery, usually in the morning or when you haven’t use your car for a long time. Battery Booster can also be use like the ordinary backup battery for re-charging cell phone while in the middle of a road trip or when you’re having a camping trip in the middle of nowhere.  Battery Boosters are also very handy in emergency situations when there’s a strong storm or temporary brownouts, so you can still make emergency calls for a possible rescue operation. Just remember to always re-charge your backup battery every time you use it, check it regularly even if you don’t use it a lot, they tend to lose charge even if they are idle or during cold weather condition.
